ServicesA licensed clinical psychologist, Ted Hutman works closely with parents to foster the best possible developmental outcomes for their children. This work takes various forms. Dr. Hutman works directly with children and he provides parents with strategies for addressing their children’s emotional and behavioral challenges. He helps parents improve communication with their children. He also works with couples to reconcile their different perspectives, to encourage collaboration, and to promote a healthy family environment in which children and parents can thrive.

Through his research, Dr. Hutman is well acquainted with the problems parents face. He helps parents confront motivation and organizational problems, aggression, defiance, impulsivity, anxiety, as well as other social and emotional challenges. This work is frequently accomplished by means of a collaboration between Dr. Hutman and the child's therapist. |
Therapy for ChildrenDrawing on his research with toddlers and children, Dr. Hutman works with children from preschool age through young adulthood to address challenges encountered at school and at home. Targets of treatment include anxiety, mood struggles, and defiance; motivation, planning, and decision-making; friendships and close relationships; and challenges associated with divorce.
Dr. Hutman treats typically developing children as well as children with autism and ADHD. |
Improving Family CommunicationDr. Hutman works with families to resolve conflicts and achieve effective
patterns of communication. Dr. Hutman helps parents identify the interactional style that supports a child's autonomy and social competence. Good communication fosters individual well-being and strong relationships among family members. |
